On 27 November 2025, our colleague Mario Majic, Head of Business Development, presented the topic ‘Circular by Design: Stakeholder Collaboration in the Lubricant Value Chain’ to an international audience of experts at the ACI in Valencia.
In his presentation, he impressively demonstrated why the circular economy is one of the biggest levers for the future of our base oil and lubricant industry. He explained how the AVISTA OIL value chain – from ULO collection and re-refining to the formulation of new lubricants – can achieve significant CO₂ savings and how the environmental impact shifts significantly along the life cycle.
Mario also outlined how EU initiatives such as the Critical Raw Materials Act and the Sustainable Product Regulation are pushing the industry towards greater circularity. Using current figures, he showed that re-refined base oils can make a decisive contribution to resource conservation compared to conventional base oils – provided that all players in the supply chain work closely together.
The summit provided an excellent platform for exchange, new ideas and a shared vision of a more sustainable lubricant industry. Many thanks to ACI and the numerous participants for the inspiring discussions!
